How home care agencies show up in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI answers
A plain checklist for home care owners and administrators, with no jargon and no promises we can't keep.
The short answer: Nobody can promise your agency a spot in a ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google AI answer, and anyone who does is guessing. What helps is clear groundwork: the same agency details everywhere, a complete Google Business Profile, pages that answer families' questions in the first sentence, real reviews, and a website AI tools are allowed to read. This checklist covers each step for a home care agency.
Why are families asking AI about home care?
A son or daughter is often the one searching. They are worried, short on time, and want a shortlist fast. Increasingly they type a full question into an AI tool, such as "Who can help my mother at home after surgery?" or "What's the difference between companion care and personal care?", instead of scrolling through ten search results.
The tool then writes one answer and sometimes names a few agencies. You want to be one of the names, or the source it quotes. This is called AI search optimization, or AEO and GEO. We explain it in plain words on our AI search page.
Can my agency be named in ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google AI answers?
It can improve its chances. It cannot buy or force a mention, and the answers can change from one day, and one question, to the next. These tools draw on different sources and update their methods, so treat anything you read about "the trick" with caution. The steps below are the ones that stay useful whichever tool a family uses.
The checklist
1. Make your agency details identical everywhere
Use the same name, address (or service area), phone number and short description on your website, Google Business Profile, Bing Places and the directories you appear in. If one listing says "Smith Home Care LLC" and another says "Smith Senior Care", AI tools and Google have a harder time knowing they are the same agency.
2. Complete your Google Business Profile
Choose the most accurate main category, list the services you really provide in plain words, and add a clear description of who you serve and where. If you serve clients in their homes and have no storefront, set a service area rather than showing an address. Follow Google's guidelines, because a profile that breaks them can be suspended.
3. Answer the question in the first sentence
AI tools tend to quote pages that give a direct answer up front. For each service page and FAQ answer, put the plain answer in the first one or two sentences, then add detail below. For example: "Companion care is non-medical help such as company, meal preparation and light housekeeping. Personal care adds hands-on help with bathing, dressing and mobility."
4. Write the questions families really ask
Make a short list from the calls and emails you already get. Typical examples:
- What does home care cost, and how is it billed?
- What is the difference between companion care and personal care?
- How do you choose and match caregivers?
- How fast can care start?
- What happens on the first call and at the assessment?
Give each one its own short answer on your site, in your own words, without private details about any client. Do not copy another agency's text.
5. Build a page for each service and each place you serve
One "Services" page gives AI tools little to work with. Create a clear page for each main service (companion care, personal care, respite care, dementia care and so on) and for each city or area you really serve, with real local detail. Avoid pages that only swap the city name.
6. Earn real reviews and real mentions
Families read reviews, and so do the sources AI tools learn from. Ask every happy family, with a direct link, and reply to each review kindly and briefly, never including private client details. Do not buy reviews, write your own or offer rewards for positive ones. It breaks platform rules and can backfire. Local news, a chamber of commerce listing or a hospital partner page that names you also helps.
7. Let AI crawlers read your site
Check your robots.txt file and any security or plugin settings. If they block AI crawlers, the tools may not be able to read your pages. Whether to allow them is your decision. If you want to show up in AI answers, allow the crawlers of the tools you care about. Check each tool's current documentation for the exact names, because they change.
8. Mark up your FAQ and keep pages current
Add a short FAQ to your key pages with proper FAQ markup (your web team can do this, and ours does it on every page). Put a "last updated" date on pages where facts change, and review them every few months.
How do I check whether it's working?
Once a month, ask the tools your families would use a handful of the real questions above, and write down whether your agency or website is named. Do it in a fresh chat each time and expect different answers. Also look at Google Search Console to see which questions bring people to your site. Small, steady changes in these checks tell you more than any single result.
A simple 30-day plan
- Week 1: Fix your name, address, phone and description everywhere. Complete your Google Business Profile.
- Week 2: Write direct answers to your top five family questions. Put the answer in the first sentence.
- Week 3: Create or improve the page for your top service and your main city. Start asking for reviews.
- Week 4: Check your
robots.txt, add FAQ markup, and run your first monthly AI check.
Then repeat every month.

FAQ
Can a home care agency show up in ChatGPT?
It can improve its chances by keeping its details consistent, publishing clear answers, earning real reviews and allowing AI crawlers to read its site. No one can guarantee a mention.
What is the difference between SEO and AI search optimization for home care?
SEO helps your agency rank in search results and on Google Maps. AI search optimization helps AI tools understand and quote your agency. Most of the groundwork overlaps: clear pages, consistent details and real reviews.
Does my Google Business Profile matter for AI answers?
Yes. It is one of the most visible sources of your agency's name, services, location and reviews, so a complete, accurate profile helps both Google and AI tools.
How long until my agency shows up in AI answers?
It varies and can't be promised. Expect to build the groundwork over months, then check monthly. Be wary of anyone who guarantees a fast result.
Should a home care agency block AI crawlers?
That is your decision. If you want to appear in AI answers, blocking them works against you. If you have a reason to keep content private, block them and accept that trade-off.
Do I need to put private client details on my site for this to work?
No. Never include private details about clients. Plain answers to general questions are what AI tools quote.
