Position Title: Welder II, III

Summary of duties - The Welder applies appropriate welding processes to join, surface, fabricate, or repair parts of metal or other weldable materials for production. Lays out and marks position pieces on parts or sub-assemblies using rule, square, scribe or templates. Fits by hand or position pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides, and steps using measuring instruments and / or hand tools. May perform fitting, welding, and silver brazing on shipboard piping systems on all types of metals. Must possess knowledge and experience in the set up and operation of machines and tools to include: mig welder, tig welder, plasma arc cutter, gas cutter, carbon arc cutter, bandsaw, drill press etc. to cut and weld parts to specifications. Uses hand tools such as grinders, needle guns, clamps, fixtures, calipers, scribes, combination squares etc. Basic knowledge of weld theory to include the following processes: SMAW, GMAW, GTAW and / or Silver Brazing. Some basic knowledge of ferrous / non- ferrous metals and the ability to read / interpret blueprints required. May be assigned the duties and responsibilities of other positions for which qualifications are met. Periodically required to lift/move equipment up to and including 50 pounds.
Specific description of duties:
\n - Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements
\n - Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications
\n - Fits and assembles parts into complete assemblies
\n - Verifies dimensions and alignment of assemblies
\n - Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated
\n - Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
\n - Welds foundations, brackets, studs, platforms, piping, and other items to support on-site installations
\n - Maintains cleanliness of the work area
\n - May provide training / oversight of junior personnel
\n - May require the ability to perform supervisory duties
\n - Overtime is routinely required but not guaranteed
\n - Travel outside the local area may be required
\n - Perform any other assignments or tasks as needed or requested by management to assist in accomplishing the organization's mission, objectives and goals.

Education/Specialized Training:
Level II:
\n - HS diploma or GED may be required depending on varying contract stipulations
\n - Apprenticeship with two years, or applicable trade school with three years, or four years related experience
\n - Certificate documentation required for listed education
\n - Fire watch certification
\n
\n
Level III:
\n - HS diploma or GED may be required depending on varying contract stipulations
\n - Apprenticeship or applicable trade school with six years practical experience, or 8 years related experience
\n - Certificate documentation required for listed education
\n - Certification documentation in areas of expertise (SMAW, GMAW, TIG ETC)
\n - Fire watch certification
\n

Security Clearance:
- Clearance up to Secret level may be required.

Physical/Environmental Job Requirements:
Physical requirements include the following:
\n - Lifting/moving up to and including 50 pounds
\n - Routinely climbing several flights of stairs
\n - Performing tasks in confined spaces
\n
\n
Our work is primarily onboard naval vessels that may include variables of physical activity, i.e. stooping, climbing, walking, etc.
In performing these duties, you may be required to work outdoors or in the warehouse. You will experience temperature variations, extremely loud noises, and other physical hazards.
