Position Summary:

Teacher Trainers will support William & Marys Learning & Design (LeAD) Lab in providing professional development to K-12 public school teachers in Virginia focused on engaging students in historical inquiry and designing student-created public history projects. This professional development may include online microlearning and/or a hybrid fellowship program for deeper teacher learning engagement.

Teacher Trainers will provide a range of support to William & Mary LeAD Lab staff, including:

  • Content expertise in the establishment of professional development sessions and workshops for history/civics teachers, with a particular focus on those in rural and underserved areas
  • Onsite and virtual expertise in project-based learning, public history, and/or historical inquiry
  • Development and/or refinement of a variety of instructional materials such as lesson plans, inquiry design materials, professional development materials, and/or microlearning courses
  • Feedback on a variety of instructional materials such as lesson plans, inquiry design materials, professional development materials, and/or microlearning courses
  • Onsite and virtual support to teachers in their schooling environments for those located in Virginias Northern Neck as part of the RevEd Student Historians Fellowship Program
  • Participation in regular planning meetings to coordinate project work
Conditions of Employment:
  • All hourly employees are subject to the limitations of the Virginia Manpower Control Program and total hours worked may not exceed, on average, 29 hours per week, over the course of a twelve-month period beginning May 1 each year.
  • This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor.
  • The position is not benefits eligible.
  • Restricted position based on available funding.

Required Qualifications:

Positions are open only to experienced (three years or more in-service) teachers currently/recently providing classroom instruction in history, social studies, or related disciplines at the kindergarten through grade 12 level.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in providing teacher professional development (in-person and/or online), creating curriculum resources, and/or working with museums, historic sites, or other cultural heritage organizations.
