For More Information: Qualifications Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's or higher degree in environmental science, physical sciences (e.g. physics, chemistry, geology, meteorology), ecology, sustainability or applied science in sustainability, life sciences (e.g. biology, microbiology, health physics or biophysics), environmental health, pre-medicine, engineering or other acceptable science or natural resource related field and five years of full-time professional environmental program, natural resource conservation work or full-time professional work that involved ensuring compliance with radiation safety standards and/or environmental regulations. Substitution of Education for Experience: Graduate coursework may be substituted for the required experience, on a year-for-year basis, to a maximum of two years. Substitution of a Specific Bachelor's Degree for Experience: A bachelor's degree in health physics or nuclear engineering may substitute for one year of the required experience in the Division of Radiological Health. Necessary Special Qualifications: Applicants must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license at the time of appointment in some positions. Examination Method: Education and Experience, 100%, for Preferred Service positions. Responsibilities Oversees direct reports of a large program or section, including completing and submitting performance review documents, addressing and recognizing direct reports' performance, assigning job tasks, ensuring timely task completion, and reviewing staff assignments for accuracy and compliance. Provides technical and/or managerial support and direction to employees performing environmental inspections, complaint investigations, remediation, inventories, monitoring work, environmental surveys, and inspection of equipment, structures, materials, and sites/facilities to evaluate pollutant levels and ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations. Directs staff to obtain, review, and analyze technical information for accuracy and completeness and assists staff in determining compliance violations and developing corrective action or enforcement actions. Oversees staff preparing technical documents and documentation of work activities in a concise and legally defensible manner, and maintains data and databases, generating queries and reports for stakeholders. Discusses recommendations for employment action with management, recruits, interviews, selects, and assists in hiring employees, ensuring preferred services rules are adhered to. Encourages team development, coaches, trains, mentors staff, identifies training needs, and enhances staff knowledge, skills, and training opportunities. Provides technical and managerial support to employees performing research and special evaluation studies of environmental pollutants to develop and revise rules, regulations, and technical policies. Assists management with budget adherence and development, manages fee programs, purchase requests, budgets, expenditures, reimbursements, contract work, equipment procurement, grants, and state/federal grant loan funding programs.
