Opportunity Details Woodfords' Shared Living Services offers family and home-based support to adults with intellectual disabilities in Central and Southern Maine who seek to improve their independence. A Shared Living provider delivers direct assistance within their own home or apartment, creating a nurturing family atmosphere that promotes relationships and community involvement. This program serves as an alternative to group home living, and targets support in education, employment, community access, family inclusion, and independent living skills. To be eligible, candidates must pass background checks, a home inspection, and meet the minimum qualifications below: Must currently reside in Maine & have a spare bedroom High School Diploma or Equivalent Valid Driver's License Personal vehicle with current auto insurance Ability to complete and maintain compliance with all required trainings Frequently Asked Questions Who can become a Shared Living Provider? Parents, relatives, or family friends can become providers for loved ones with intellectual disabilities. Providers can also be paired with non‑related individuals with similar interests. Do I have to own a home to participate? No. You do not need to own your current residence. Who determines the placement? The provider and the consumer decide if placement is a good match. The timeline varies, but the goal is a fit for all parties. Can I work another job and still be a shared living provider? Yes. Many providers balance other employment while meeting the level of commitment required. What is your service area? Contracts are in York, Cumberland, Androscoggin, Oxford, Sagadahoc, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Piscataquis, and Somerset Counties.
