Planned Parenthood Los Angeles is seeking an experienced Network Engineer . The Network Engineer is responsible for configuring, monitoring, and optimizing the organization's local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) infrastructure across all Agency locations in the Los Angeles area. The role is focused on network security management, design, governance, and change management in an Enterprise healthcare organization. This position ensures reliable, secure, and scalable network services, with a particular emphasis on LAN and WAN technologies, Network Access Control, PAN and Juniper network systems, network monitoring solutions such as SolarWinds Orion, and Aruba wireless technology. The Network Engineer coordinates all ISP solutions and configurations across all sites focusing on high-availability and redundancy and plays a key role in safeguarding patient care by ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and standards, while continuously improving network operations to meet the needs of the organization. Key performance indicators for this role are directly tied to network uptime.

Our Ideal Candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 6+ years of experience as a Network Engineer, with a focus on distributed, Enterprise WAN environments and network access control
  • Healthcare organization experience highly preferred.
  • Certifications such as CCNA, JNCIP-ENT, PCNSE, or similar are highly desirable.
  • Experience working in environments subject to HIPAA compliance.
  • Extensive experience in network security management, design, and governance, preferably in healthcare environments.
  • In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with ISP solutions including SD-WAN, ELAN, and managed WiFi, PAN, Juniper, and Aruba wireless technologies.
  • Experience in managing large, distributed networks across multiple locations, ensuring uptime and reliability.
  • Proficient in using network management and monitoring tools, especially SolarWinds Orion.
  • Strong experience with network change management processes in a highly regulated industry.
  • Experience with Network Access Control (NAC) solutions and managing NAC across an enterprise.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders, including healthcare providers, vendors, and IT staff.
  • Strong understanding of network protocols, troubleshooting techniques, and security best practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including after-hours and weekends, for critical network updates and maintenance.

About the Position:

  • Abortion patients are cared for at each of our health centers, and in part through the administrative, support, and other non-clinical services provided at all PPLA locations, and by all PPLA employees. Supporting these critical services is an essential job duty, and a fundamental responsibility of all employees and contractors.
  • Design, implement, and manage network infrastructure using ELAN, SD-WAN, Palo Alto Networks, Juniper, and Aruba wireless technologies, and NAC solutions.
  • Monitor and optimize network performance using SolarWinds Orion or other network management tools.
  • Implement robust security measures to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations (HIPAA) and protect sensitive patient data.
  • Work closely with internal and external IT staff, vendors, and departments to design and implement network solutions and upgrades, ensuring high availability and security.
  • Manage ISP services, subscriptions, and configurations for all Affiliate sites.
  • Serve as the primary POC (point of contact) between PPLA and ISP’s including Spectrum, Time Warner, TelePacitic and other telecommunications providers.
  • Collaborate with others in the IT department, including the Service Desk and Applications teams, to deliver high-availability network services across all PPLA locations.
  • Participate in the IT Security Operations Center (SOC) to actively monitor and respond to security-related network incidents, mitigating risks and maintaining network integrity.
  • Execute and oversee network changes through established change management processes, ensuring minimal disruption to healthcare operations.
  • Maintain high availability and reliability of network services, proactively addressing potential issues.
  • Visit Health Centers for network implementations, upgrades, and support, as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Security and Infrastructure teams to ensure comprehensive network monitoring and security postures.
  • Document network configurations, procedures, and updates in accordance with departmental policies and healthcare regulations.
  • Respond to network incidents, troubleshoot, and resolve issues in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Be part of a rotating on-call schedule as needed to support critical network operations both onsite and remote.
  • Provide support and guidance to other IT staff, junior network staff or contractors as needed.
