Position Overview
The Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating and managing the daily operations of a 50-truck fleet. This role ensures timely, efficient, and compliant movement of freight while maintaining strong communication with drivers, customers, and internal teams. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational skills and problem-solving abilities. A familiarity with DOT/FMCSA regulations and Hours of Service (HOS) rules a plus.
Key Responsibilities
Load Planning & Scheduling
Assign and dispatch drivers to loads based on availability, route efficiency, and customer requirements.
Optimize routes to reduce empty miles and maximize profitability.
Driver Communication
Maintain constant communication with drivers regarding schedules, delays, and compliance requirements.
Provide support for breakdowns, accidents, or emergencies.
Customer Service
Communicate with customers regarding load status, delivery times, and any issues.
Resolve service complaints promptly and professionally.
Compliance & Documentation
Ensure drivers adhere to DOT Hours of Service (HOS) regulations.
Maintain accurate records of dispatch activities, load details, and driver logs.
Problem Resolution
Respond quickly to unexpected events such as weather delays, mechanical issues, or route changes.
Coordinate with maintenance and safety teams as needed.
Technology Utilization
Use TMS (Transportation Management System) and ELD platforms for scheduling and tracking.
Monitor GPS and telematics for real-time fleet visibility.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
2+ years in dispatching or transportation operations (trucking industry preferred).
Familiarity with DOT regulations and Hours of Service compliance.
Skills:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to multitask and work under pressure.
Proficiency in TMS, ELD systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Other Requirements:
Problem-solving mindset and attention to detail.
Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends or evenings if needed.
