Onsite, Chicago Full Time (MondayFriday)

A missiondriven nonprofit with a spiritual foundation is seeking its first Chief Financial Officer to architect financial strategy and elevate organizational stewardship. With a strong operating budget of $15M and a team of more than 50 employees, this role shifts from a tactical finance model to a strategic, futurefocused function designed to support longterm growth, capital planning, and multiproperty development for a spiritual community serving tens of thousands. The CFO will lead forecasting, investment planning, and overall financial health while guiding a seasoned, longtenured finance team within a collaborative and serviceoriented culture.

The organization is entering an expansion period marked by communitycentered real estate development with space dedicated to educational, spiritual, cultural, and artistic programming for the surrounding neighborhood. This is a meaningful opportunity for an experienced financial leader to shape strategy at scale, steward resources with integrity, and make a lasting missionaligned impact on an organization poised for sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all financial strategy, capital planning, forecasting, and budgeting efforts.
  • Advise senior leadership and the board on investments, longrange planning, and organizational risk.
  • Oversee and develop a finance team of five, including evaluation and potential restructuring.
  • Ensure compliance, reporting accuracy, and strong stewardship of donations and financial resources.
  • Collaborate with external auditors and contractors.
  • Oversee grant compliance, including fund accounting, restricted fund tracking, and reporting.
  • Present financial updates and analysis to executive leadership and the board.
  • Strengthen financial systems, controls, and processes to support growth.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience.
  • CPA required or equivalent, directly comparable experience.
  • Experience in construction, real estate, property acquisition, or capitalfocused FP&A.
  • Expertise in forecasting, budgeting, and strategic financial leadership.
  • Experience managing and developing teams.
  • Strong communication skills with executive leadership and boards.
  • Nonprofit experience preferred; prior exposure to grant compliance and fund accounting required.
  • Familiarity with faithbased or communitycentered organizations is a plus.

Compensation

  • Annual discretionary bonus: $1,000$5,000. Bonus eligibility and amount are based upon company and/or individual performance.
  • No additional incentive pay or equity is offered for this role.

Benefits (IRSreportable and fully compliant)

  • Medical, dental, shortterm disability, and longterm disability insurance.
  • Paid vacation: two weeks per year (three weeks after seven years).
  • Paid sick leave: six days per year.
  • One paid day off for employees birthday.
  • Paid leave may also include any required Federal, State, or local paid leave.
