Job Description

Ulla Johnson is seeking an Assistant Technical Designer to join our Production team. The Assistant Technical Designer of Production plays an essential role in supporting the fit and production processes across the Ready-To-Wear collection. This position ensures garment quality and fit integrity by managing sample flow, executing precise measurements, facilitating clear communication with factories, and generating detailed tech packs. The role demands meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities-

Sample Management:

• Maintain oversight of sample status from SMS through TOP, ensuring all styles adhere to the delivery calendar in close collaboration with the Production Coordinator.
• Steam and prepare samples for fittings, ensuring the fit rack is accurately organized by due dates. Prepare necessary tools such as pin cushions and fitting aids.
• Manage organization of the sample closet and production storage bins to support workflow efficiency.
• Occasionally assist the Studio Manager with outgoing sample shipments and packaging logistics.

Measurement Tasks:

• Execute precise measurements on incoming samples from SMS through TOP with a high degree of accuracy and consistency. Ensure all measurements are taken in a timely manner, aligned with sample due dates.
• Understand and apply company measurement standards and ensure all spec sheets are updated to adhere to them, updating when necessary. Document any problematic measurements so management can review during fitting and determine best course of action.
• Input critical measurement data into the seasonal E-commerce size chart, which serves as a foundational reference for internal teams and retail partners. This task requires both accuracy and comprehension of garment balance and grade logic.

Communication Tasks:

• Book models for fittings and proactively strategize fitting schedules in partnership with the development team's schedule, particularly in preparation for high-volume periods.
• Maintain consistent and professional email correspondence with factory partners, including follow-ups on production sample timelines.

Commenting & Technical Documentation:

• Update and maintain tech packs during the development-to-production transition. This includes cleaning up files, incorporating meeting notes, and attaching seasonal lookbook imagery.
• Draft and submit fit comments with supporting visuals or garment illustrations as needed.
• Take ownership of executing and submitting all TOP comments for RTW collection, attending the fittings with the Senior Manager.
• Take ownership of 2 woven groups and 2 knit groups at the start of each season. Follow these groups from SMS through TOP approvals. Scope may increase with experience and performance
• Complete grading for your assigned groups, adhering closely to company standards
• Escalate urgent fit or production concerns to the manager promptly for strategic direction and resolution.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate initiative and a proactive mindset to support evolving team needs.
• Maintain flexibility and the ability to prioritize tasks that ensure efficient time and resource management.

Desired Skills & Experience-

• 1+ year of relevant experience with strong internship background
• College Degree in related area
• Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Microsoft Excel,
• Solid knowledge of garment construction, pattern terminology, and manufacturing processes
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills
• A team player who collaborates effectively across functions
• Self-starter who thrives in deadline-driven environments with a strong sense of

Salary Range: $55,000-$64,000

*Compensation may vary based on factors such as years of experience, skills, and qualifications. Ulla Johnson reserves the right to offer a salary outside of this range based on these considerations.
