Job Summary This on-site position requires a keen eye for safety and sets the tone for a safe environment for kids and families. Lifeguards support safety standards in the water and on the deck, act as first responders, maintain safety equipment, and serve on a dynamic team. Benefits Individual membership to the YMCA of Greater Seattle Free access to mental health resources Rapidly accruing paid time off (PTO) Hiring Range: $20.76 - $22/hour DOE Responsibilities Maintain safe swimming conditions and prevent accidents by constant observation and enforcement of health and safety rules. Rescue distressed persons, administer first aid or CPR, and use training, rescue techniques, and medical supplies. Perform equipment checks, ensure appropriate equipment is available, and report problems. Provide great customer service to members, program participants, and guests at all times. Attend staff meetings and trainings as required. Perform pool side chemical testing. Set up and store equipment for recreational swims. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications We can facilitate the certification process if you are not yet certified. 16 years of age or older for part-time; 18 years of age or older for full-time. Current lifeguard certification from a recognized organization (e.g., Red Cross)*. Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications*. Current Administering Emergency Oxygen Certification*. Strong swimming abilities. Observant and able to react calmly, quickly, and with good judgment in an emergency. Maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness. Obtain certification within 30 days of hire. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
